Producing quality raisins from periette grapes

Grapes occupy a predominant position among fruits in the world and are good from nutritional point of view. Maharashtra, Kamatal^a, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Punjab are the major grapes growing states of India. There are large number of varietiesof grapes grown in Punjab, but the Periette and Thomson seedless varieties are most suitable for making raisins. The Periette variety is preferred for processing due to its high yield and early maturing nature.The harvesting period of grapes is very short and during the peak season markets are flooded with fruit, which results in crashing of prices. So, farmers have to bear the heavy losses. Raisins making is one of the best alternatives to utilize the produce in glut season.
