摘要

Garlic is an important cool season crop. It is cultivated all over India and is generally used for flavouring and seasoning vegetables. In Punjab, garlic is sown over an area of 3 thousand hectares with production of 44.2 thousand tonnes during the year 2008-2009. Garlic is an important source of proteins, vitamin C, phosphorus, calcium and magnesium. It has various antimicrobial, anticancer, and antioxidant properties. Regular consumption of garlic kills a harmful intestinal bacterium which interferes with the digestive system.
