Garlic bulbs are valued for their sulphur containing aromatic compounds, which have wide applications in food and pharmaceutical areas. China is the highest producer of garlic, followed by India, Korea, USA, Egypt and Spain. In India, Madhya Pradesh is the leading garlic growing state followed by Gujrat, Orisa, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, etc. Punjab produces around 14000 tonnes of garlic with the highest yield of 12.5 tonnes/ha.
