European elder and red-berried elder - natural hosts of Cherry leaf roll virus.

It was found, for the first time in Poland, that European elder (Sambucus nigra) and red-berried elder (S. pubens) were natural hosts of Cherry leaf roll virus (CLRV). The sequence of genome fragment of Polish virus isolates was sequenced. It was shown that Polish CLRV isolates from European elder and red-berried elder differed from known isolates from European elders from other countries and were genetically closest to the isolates from walnuts of Spain and the USA and birch trees from Great Britain. The ELISA tests showed that infection of both elders with CLRV in the environs of Poznan City (Poland) was of a high extent and exceeded 50%.
