IPMI did things a little different this year by having an entire morning, Session A, held on Sunday, devoted to a keynote speaker, Professor Peter Morici. After an introduction by Fred Saada of Toyota Tsusho America, Morici, a professor at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland delivered his discussion and PowerPoint presentation, Brazil, China, India and Russia: Challenges for U.S. Policy. This heavily attended session found the delegates listening to Morici explain key ideas about globalization, the history of globalization, post WW I Environment of Brazil, Russia, India and China (BRICS) and their rising importance. He spent a portion of his talk focusing on China, China's strategy and socialist market. He concluded with a discussion on the implications of international business. Session B, Silver, hosted by the Silver Users Association and moderated by Jonathan Potts of Fidelitrade, was a popular session and well attended. Earl Brooks of the U.S. Geological Survey was the first up on the platform. His presentation was entitlted, Silver Information at the U.S. Geological Survey. Next, delegates heard from Barclays who sent Joanna Callinicos to talk about the iShares. Jeffrey Christian of The CPM Group rounded out the session with his talk, The Role of Investors in the Silver Market and Price in which he shared that investors are primary and discretionary buyers of silver and that it is their influence that reflects silver pricing.
