Dog:cat population ratio is interestingly similar in houses and apartments of Southern Brazil

Our research group has recently published the article “Impact of demographic characteristics in pet ownership: modeling animal count according to owners income and age” (Preventive Veterinary Medicine 109 (2013) 213–218) showing that owners age, and not family income, had a significant effect on pet increase in households. Besides, we have used the original data to establish the estimated population and ratio among human beings, dogs and cats of Curitiba and surroundings, the seventh biggest metropolitan area of Brazil with around 3.2 million of habitants in 2010.
