Drug-induced gingival hyperplasia

Gingival hyperplasia refers to an overgrowth of gum tissue. It starts in the anterior interdental tissues and then extends posteriorly. The gums can sometimes enlarge to cover almost all the teeth. The hyperplastic tissue appears to be fibrous. The consequences are mainly cosmetic. Gingival hyperplasia can be caused by a number of drugs, generally during long-term use.
