Synthesis and catalytic activity of long chain quaternary ammonium poly(propyleneimine) dendrimers

Quaternary ammonium poly(propyleneimine) dendrimers can act as unimolecular phase transfer catalysts. The hydrophobic/hydrophilic balance of these catalysts can be tuned by varying the length and number of the quaternizing chains. Our group has used the decarboxylation of 6-nitrobenzisoxazole-3-carboxylate to assess the efficiency of these catalysts. However previous methods to synthesize quaternary ammonium dendrimer catalysts have proven to be inefficient.
