Aromatic polyimides have been recognized as high performance materials for microelectronics 1, aerospace 2 and space applications due to their exceptional thermal stability, chemical and radiation resistance, mechanical and dielectric properties, ease of processing and thin-film formation. There is, however, a considerable need to develop high-temperature, optically transparent polymeric materials for application in solar cells, magnetic tapes, photoresists and thermal control systems on space components, optoelectronic integrated circuits (OEIC) and multichip interconnections.
