Windows On Play: Two Plastic Dolls' Houses From The V&A Museum Of Childhood

The new exhibition Small Stories: at Home in a Dolls'House looks at 300 years of domestic life in Britain through the lens of miniature homes. Twelve wonderful houses have been selected from the collection of the V&A Museum of Childhood, including two plastic designs which broke the mould for dolls' houses. Self-consciously modern, Jennys Home (1965-1970) and the Kaleidoscope House (2001) both reject the traditional form of a wooden dolls' house with hinged doors, to experiment with different layouts inspired by modernist architecture and new ways of life. Choosing plastic was significant in this embrace of the new.
