Bayer Boosts MDI Production,Seeks Higher Prices

Tight supply has prompted Bayer to increase its worldwide production of methylene di-pora-phenylene isocyanate(MDI)by 10% by "maximizing the availability of its existing plants,"the company says.Bayer has capacity for 800,000 m.t./year of MDI.The company previously announced plans to add 140,000 m.t./year of MDI at its plants in Baytown,TX;Brunsbiittel,Germany;and Tarragona,Spain by 2006(CW,March 10,p.14).It is also building a 230,000-m.t./year crude MDI plant at Caojing,China by 2008(CW,June 23,p.13).
