US OCC prices hit a trough as buyers hold back purchases post Labor Day holiday in China

Suppliers’ expectations of seeing a rebound in recovered paper (RCP) pricing in the wake of the long Labor Day holiday in China have been put on hold due to customers’ reluctance to stock up. Prices for the benchmark brown grade, US old corrugated containers (OCC), have seen an erosion, shifting down from $200-206/tonne a fortnight ago to $200-201/tonne this week (No. 17, p.2). The slide occurred despite sellers’ push for a modest hike.
