Low-Velocity Slug-Flow Pneumatic Conveying in Inclined Pipeline

To date, many investigations have been carried out on low-ve-locity slug-flow pneumatic conveying along horizontal and vertical pipelines [1 -4] and very little work has been undertaken along inclined pipedict pressure drop and slug velocity in low-velocity slug-flow along inclined pipeline. The derived correlations indicate that pressure drop along inclined pipeline is consistently greater than that along horizontal pipeline and slug velocity has a reverse tred. A maximum pressure drop and a minimum slug velocity exist corresponding to a critical inclination angle of #beta# = arctan(1/2#mu#_w) as the pipeline orientation changes from the horizontal to vertical. The tend of pressure drop found in this paper is same as those in strand (or cluster) flow [5] and dilute-phase [6] along the inclined pipeline. The theoretical approach presented in this paper can be applied to bulk solid materials with regular, irregular and/or unusual physical properties (e.g. different shape, density, size and distribution), as long as they are good candidates for slug-flow.
