Due to its low power consumption, product damage and pipeline wear, low-velocity slug-flow pneumatic conveying has been used widely in industry, especially in the food and plastics industries. Based on research conducted recently, this paper aims to summarise the recent research results for the purpose of understanding and designing low-velocity slug-flow pneumatic conveying systems, in particular the selection of bulk solid materials for this flow mode, the prediction of total pipeline air pressure, drop, the determiantion of lower and upper boundaries for slug-flow conveying and the application of stepped pipelines.
