Industrial mixing technology has seen few advances during the past four decades. Manufacturers have largely confined themselves to simply tinkering with machine designs - making changes in the number of blades employed, their shape and rotation, the number and configuration of teeth on saw-blade type discs, and blade speeds. And with each modification, they have arrived at essentially the same methodology for dispersing fine-particle solids and introducing them into liquid materials to form a homogeneous final mix: Agitate the powdered solid; hope that the agglomerates, or lumps, break up enough to produce a homogeneous mix; and if they don't, keep on grinding the mix until you get a passable result.
