THERE are several commercial plastics processing methods available today. Injection molding is one of the most important method among these processing methods. A lot of variations of injection molding method have been developed today. Multi-material injection molding is becoming popular day by day. Tooling costs of this process are quite high, but cost savings can be made by eliminating assembly steps. Different materials are involved in molding different types of articles. By combining different materials with different properties we can acquire many benefits in the end-use products. High quality resin can be used for the outside skin, while an inexpensive plastics for the inside part or unreinforced plastic for skin while reinforced plastic for the inside or flexible materianfor skin while rigid raw material for the inside. Between these two raw materials compatibility is the most important consideration for good interfacial between them. Material choice depends on the rheological properties and processing conditions of the raw materials. There are three types of multi-material injection molding process namely multi-component, multi-shot, and over-molding.
