Once we saw piglets and thought wistfully of Babe. Now, we're more inclined to think of dinner, reports the Melbourne Age newspaper. Pork is more popular than ever, according to Melbourne restaurateurs, and prejudices against pig meat are disappearing. "I'm staggered by the demand for it," says Denis Lucey, owner of Bottega. "When I first started in restaurants in the 1980s, we'd put pork on and it would never sell . . . Now it's a staple." Bottega will serve 'Pork on the Sidewalk' as part of Melbourne's annual Roast Collection festival, which is devoting 20 of its 80 events to the pleasures of pig flesh.
