Ventilated Litter Floors

Housing broilers, turkeys, broiler breeders and ducks on ventilated litter floors can cut ammonia emission by between 50-90%. But the extra investment cost is only partly covered by improved performance. In a concerted drive to reduce environmental pollution, the Dutch government has set a target for a 70% reduction in ammonia emission from livestock production by the period 2000-2005, compared with 1980 base levels. By 2010-2015 the reduction must be 80%.
