As July got under way, the significant drop in the styrene monomer contract eased the cost burden on producers and seemed to signal some relaxation of notations for medium-reactive ortho resins contracts negotiated in Germany. However, the tranquility was soon disturbed by the steep rise in the Q3 contract for maleic acid. As the two factors balanced each other out, notations for the standard grades remained flat at the June level. In the glass fibre segment, chopped strand mats continued to change hands at end-of-Q2 prices despite dogged attempts by producers to push through a hike. In contrast, price increases for E-glass propelled notations for direct rovings at the upper end of the scale forward by EUR 60/t.
