SAN DIEGO-New analytic tools and means to monitor particulate matter data are beginning to allow scientists to determine what substances in particulates and what sources are causing health problems,university researchers said March 6.The information will help regulators determine which industries might need to control their emissions,said Philip Hopke,a professor at Clarkson University and member of the Environmental Protection Agency's Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee."We can move ahead.There are good tools available to help with source identification and apportionment," Hopke said.He served on a panel session titled "The Complexities of Air Pollution Regulation:The Need for an Integrated Research and Regulatory Perspective," held during the Society of Toxicology's 45th annual meeting.
