Asia ethylene touches 16-year high in 2006,but surplus fears loom

Tokyo-Asia's ethylene prices ended 2006 at l,205/mt CFR Taiwan,on an upswing,but 280/mt below the year's peak of l,485/mt on September 1.The price peak marked a 16-year historical high,Platts data showed.The fly up in September was fueled by the bullish global energy complex,which was in turn sparked by political tensions in the Middle East and lost crude oil production at Prudhoe Bay,Alaska,the site of the largest oil field in the US.
