Argentina hikes natural gas export tax,boosting price for Chile

Buenos Aires-Argentina's Economy Ministry issued a resolution July 25 increasing the tax on natural gas exports to 45% from 20%,a move that jacks up the price of the fuel for importers such as neighbouring Chile.The increase,effective July 25,makes it possible for Argentina to compensate for a 56% increase in the price it began paying July 15 for Bolivian gas,according to the resolution signed by Argentina's Economy Minister Felisa Miceli.Bolivia raised its price to 5/MMBtu from 3.2/MMBtu for the 7.7 million cu m/d of Bolivian gas that Argentina imports to meet 5-6% of its 120-130 million cu m/d domestic demand.Bolivia's price is expected to rise further next year.
