US-based Eastman will permanently cease production of PET at its 180,000 mt/year unit at San Roque,Spain,the company said January 26.The unit was idled January 17-18 due to an industrial dispute over the closure of an accompanying plant."This is not our preferred option but it is the only option given an untenable labor situation," said chairman and chief executive officer,Brian Ferguson.The company has faced unrest from unions for several months since it announced in September 2006,the closure of its CHDM plant at the same site in December.
