India has removed import duty on naphtha imported by the power sector for use as fuel to generate power, a government statement said December 7. "To provide relief to the power sector, naphtha imported for generation of electric energy has been fully exempted from basic customs duty," the statement said, adding that the exemption would stay in force till March 31. This is part of a government stimulus package to shore up the Indian economy from the global downturn.
