Such add-on components as the inlet pipe, breather, and pump access are currently injection molded in high-density polyethylene so that they can be hot-plate welded to the HDPE surface of the gas tank. However, while the tank itself is usually a HDPE/EVOH barrier coextrusion, the add-on components have no barrier layer and therefore allow undesirable hydrocarbon permeation.
