Coal prices inch up at Qinhuangdao Port; stocks continued to slip

Coal prices have edged up at China’s Qinhuangdao Port while stocks continue to drop, port figures show. Free carrier prices of 5,500 kcal/kg NAR Shanxi coal at Qinhuangdao climbed Yuan 15/mt in the past week to a range of Yuan 700-710/mt ($102.5-103.9/mt, net as received, including 17% VAT). Prices were at Yuan 685-695/mt on April 20 and Yuan 570-585/mt this time last year. Shanxi coal with a heating value of 5,800-6,000 kcal/kg NAR firmed Yuan 15/mt to Yuan 745-755/mt on a week earlier. Similar materials were traded at Yuan 600-610/mt a year earlier.
