The US spot propylene market closed the first week of the new year without a January contract settlement but with refinery- grade product hitting the 72-cent/lb mark Friday, according to sources. Expectations are for 15- to 20-cent/lb increase on the CP after producers' nominations were announced in late December. Strong demand and tight supply, exacerbated by two recent force majeure declarations, were adding pressure on the market.
