MEG prices rose in the first week of the year on tight supply. There were no spot exports to speak of but traders said they would continue to eye Europe when and if spot cargoes become available in the US. One trader put the NWE netback at 50 cents/lb and though others put the netback under that level most agreed prices would trend upward considering Europe's need to raise the glycol price in light of a higher ethylene costs.
