The FOB NWE butadiene market strengthened this week as price levels moved back above the $1,600/mt FOB mark. Early-week indications suggested limited scope for price rises, with buyers said to be bidding in the low $1,400's, according to sources. As the week progressed reported levels began to climb however, with $1,600/mt FOB pegged as a value by a trader, while by Friday a 2kt FOB trade was reported done between producer and trader at $1,650/mt for September lifting. The level surprised some sources given that Asia was said to be "still dictating FOB ARA" and the CFR China prices did not appear to support rises of this scale in Europe.
