US spot ethylene posted modest gains this week and closed Friday assessed on either side of 53.125 cents/lb, up .625 cents week on week. Also Friday, market participants reported the February contract price settling up 3.75 cents at 49 cents/lb. The roughly 8% increase from January was expected by many market participants given stronger ethylene values over the past three weeks. Spot ethylene has hovered above the 49-cent/lb mark since February 14 and hit a 39-week high February 17, when it reached the 53.750- cent/lb mark. Ethylene began the week assessed on either side of 52.750 cents/lb and showed a slow but steady climb throughout the week.
