US rig count rises by 20

The US rig count was 1,021 the week ending May 9, up by 20 from the prior week, according to Baker Hughes. The latest count includes 894 land, 112 offshore and 15 inland water rigs, with 848 assigned to gas, 170 to oil and 3 to miscellaneous drilling. The rigs were drilling 687 vertical, 268 directional and 66 horizontal wells.
