Bare-root plants from Canada were transplanted on 11 Oct 2012 to plastic-mulched, raised beds fumigated with Telone C-35 (300 lb/A). The plants were irrigated by overhead sprinklers for 8 days to aid establishment, then irrigated and fertilized through drip tape. The beds were 28 in. wide on 4-ft centers. Treatments were arranged in a randomized complete block design with four blocks in adjacent beds. Plots were 9.4 ft long with 3 ft of empty space between plots in each bed, and consisted of 14 plants in two staggered rows 12 in. apart with 15 in. in-row plant spacing. Foliar treatments were applied with a CO_2 backpack sprayer delivering 100 gal/A at 50 psi through two TeeJet disc-core hollow cone nozzles spaced 12 in. apart on the boom. Three Actigard treatments were applied through dual dedicated drip tapes in 8,100 gal/A (0.75 gal per ft of bed). Treatments with Firewall consisted of dipping plants in a 100 ppm solution (0.5 lb in 100 gal) for 5 min just before transplant and/or foliar sprays made 8 and 13 days after planting. Foliar treatments, with the exception of FireWall, were applied weekly from 14 Dec to 1 Mar (12 applications). To suppress fungal diseases, Captan 80WDG was applied weekly with a tractor-mounted hydraulic sprayer in 100gal/A at 200 psi (1.8 lb/A in Dec and early Jan; 3.0 lb/A from mid-Jan to mid-Mar). Fruit were harvested twice weekly from 31 Dec to 14 Mar (22 harvests). Healthy fruit weighing more than 10 g were counted and weighed to determine marketable yield. Diseased and other unmarketable fruit were also enumerated. After the final harvest, 10 plants/plot were evaluated for angular leaf spot (ALS). The number of dead leaflets with significant ALS lesions and the number of green leaflets more than 10% blighted byALS were recorded for each plant. Counts of dead and blighted leaflets were divided by three (since each leaf has three leaflets), averaged for each plot, and combined to provide an overall value for ALS-damaged leaves/plant. Leaf reddening due to copper phytotoxicity was assessed on 29 Feb. Yield and disease data were analyzed by Proc GLM in SAS. Treatment means were separated by Fisher's protected LSD (alpha = 0.05).
