Acetals as new solvents in paint and coating formulations,paint strippers and graffiti removers

Acetals are a new class of solvents produced at industrial scale.They have excellent toxicological and ecotoxical profiles,have no ozone depletion potential (ODP)and show a benign atmospheric behaviour.They are not labelled for toxi-cological and ecotoxicological concerns.Acetals produced by the Lambiotte Company (methylal,ethylal,butylal,1,3-dioxolane and glycerol formal) have from a very low to high boiling point.They usually have high or very high solvent power.Depending on the product,they are non miscible,fully miscible or partially miscible with water.Acetals have recently found various applications in the coating industry:solvents for different paints and coatings,active ingredients in paint strippers and graffiti removers.
