An intensive electrocaloric effect in the uniaxial ferroelectric NH4HSO4 near the second-order phase transition (T-1 approximate to 271 K) is studied. A high electrical conductivity of the NH4HSO4 crystal is revealed, and its temperature dependence is investigated. The results obtained are analyzed together with the data available for the ferroelectrics, which hold promise for the use as solid-state cooling agents.
