We thank Gholami K. and colleagues for providing us this opportunity to discuss further the features and limitations of a method that we have developed and tested to collect information on drug exposure for pharmacoepidemiologic studies directly from study participants.[1] The progressive assisted backward active recall (PABAR) method was developed to improve the collection of self-reported drug exposure for case–control studies where recall errors and biases constitute a major challenge, particularly for past and remote exposures.
