Drug use among persons with Type 2 diabetes mellitus prior to diagnosis in Belgium.

With respect to our recent letter 'Drug use among persons with type 2 diabetes mellitus prior to diagnosis in Belgium' published in this journal, commenting on the findings of Manderbacka et al., we would like to inform readers that, in addition to reporting new results, our letter draws on selected previous pharmacoepidemiologic and pharmacoeconomic data from our ongoing research programme on drug use prior to diabetes diagnosis. This includes a previously published pharmacoepidemiologic study quantifying the prevalence of drug use associated with diabetes3 and from a previously published pharmacoeconomic study calculating the volume and costs of drug use associated with diabetes.
