In the tradition of other writers with bold, wide-scale analyses of the world's challenges such as Derrick Jensen, Jared Diamond, and Daniel Quinn, Plotkin sets himself a lofty goal: to identify the essential perversion that is responsible for modern societies' decay, and chart a path toward healing. In this, his second major work, Plotkin concerns himself more with the salvation arc of humanity's narrative than its fall. He locates his hopes for redemption from ecocidal crisis in more complete human maturity, in more fully experiencing the circle of life at all ages. In this, he extends the trajectory of more individually-focused spiritual authors like Eckhart Tolle, drawing out from such lessons a pathway for wider society itself to finally grow up.
