Cost control, maintaining quality healing and working environments, and more sustainable, energy efficient operations are important topics in healthcare today. This team has developed research directed at much higher performing hospitals - targeting both energy performance and interior environmental quality, for little capital investment in six of the most populous and diverse climate regions in the USA. Named Targeting 100!, this project creates a framework for achieving an energy use intensity of less than 315 kWh/m~2 year; this energy use intensity would achieve the US Knvironmental Protection Agency's Energy Star rating of 100 and meet the 2030 Challenge, signifying energy performance in the highest tier of hospitals in the USA. The project strives for radical energy reduction targets and cost control through integrated strategy sets and team collaboration. It provides a conceptual framework and decision-making structure at a schematic design level of precision for key stakeholders in the design, construction, and operation of hospitals.
