The J/AQM-1 is air-launched from under-wing pylons on either an F-4EJ Phantom or F-15D/DJ Eagle of the JASDF. The drone is non-recoverable. The J/AQM-1 has a tubular air-frame with mid-mounted clipped delta wings (interchangeable left and right) and four tail planes mounted at 45 degrees from the vertical and horizontal axes. The engine is mounted in a pod underneath the rear section of the fuselage. Airframe construction is of aluminum and steel. The nosecone and tail cone are made of fiberglass.
