The manufacture of vegetable tanned light leathers

Previous articles (Part 1.April 2000, Part 2,June/July 2000, Part 3, October 2000) have discussed the needs and uses of vegetable tanning materials for both heavy and light leather manufacture. However, an increasing demand in some sectors for chrome-free leathers has speeded the development of pretanning techniques. New combination leathers are now arising, presenting opportunities for vegetable tanning agents in leathers that require different characteristics.
