Fixing leather dye(s) on vegetable-tanned and/or re-tanned leather

A method for fixing dyes on vegetable-tanned and/or retanned leather in an aqueous bath containing one or more dyes, involves adjusting the bath to weakly acidic and adding chitosan (0.05-4 wt.% of leather) having molecular weight of 10,000-5,000,000 and a degree of deacetylation of 80-88%.
