Reports from Germany suggest the country's highly respected leather training school, the Lederinstitut Gerberschule Reutlingen (LGR), is facing insolvency. When World Leather called the school at the end of April to ask for confirmation, there was no answer, but a spokesperson for the city of Reutlingen said the institution was closed for the Easter holidays. She confirmed, however, that the news of its insolvency was true. She said debts had gone beyond 1 million and that, in spite of having given as much help as it could to LGR in recent years.
