Revisions to the Korean Patent Act to be Implemented Based on Patent Law Treaty

The Patent Law Treaty ("PLT"), adopted at a Diplomatic Conference on June 1, 2000 and made effective on April 28, 2005, is a multinational agreement between 27 countries, including Korea, the United Kingdom, France, Australia, and Russia, that seeks to harmonize formal procedures for maintaining a patent in those countries. Notably absent from the PLT are the United States and Japan. While there has been some talk of these countries also taking part, there has ultimately been no formal indication from either country on whether they will join the PLT.
