The Russian Federation has been criticized for many years for maintaining a lax intellectual property protection legal system. The recent accession to the World Trade Organization and ratification of the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights has not only provoked a profound review and improvement of IP legislation but has also led to the creation of a specialized IP court (see "Russia Launches New Court on IP Rights, Increased Enforcement Expected" [27 WIPR 17, 3/1/13]).
