The downward trend in Australian wool prices continued through March. As each week passed with export demand from China failing to re-emerge after the Lunar New Year, the more market sentiment deteriorated. The Australian Wool Exchange's (AWEX) Eastern Market Indicator (EMI) decreased by 4.5% during March to reach 1,059 Australian cents per kilo, clean, at the last sale before the Easter recess, its lowest point since December 4. In US dollar terms, the Indicator declined by 2.8% during the same period, to 1,108 US cents per kilo. The biggest falls continued to be in the finer Merino wools (16.5 to 18 microns).
