THE INLAND EMPIRE TEAM EMBRACES NEW PARTNERS

In 2002, the League's Inland Empire Division began talking with labor representatives, business leaders, seniors, nonprofit executives and community organizers about building a powerful coalition. Those initial discussions have developed into a diverse team that's attracting legislators attention. The coalition agreed to first work together to educate their members and employees about the vulnerability of local government services and the state budget deficit. These efforts expanded to include visiting Sacramento and district legislative offices, holding news conferences, making media calls and meeting with editorial boards. Today the partners are serving together on a steering committee known as "Friends of CITIPAC." The group is working to pass the local government statewide initiative, the Local Taxpayers and Public Safety Protection Act, which would create a constitutional amendment to protect local revenues. CITIPAC is a political action committee formed by the League in 2003 to raise funds and accept contributions in support of the initiative.
