摘要

Juan De Lara's Inland Shift: Race, Space and Capital in Southern California is the product of a long-term engagement with Southern California's Inland Empire, a region on the outskirts of Los Angeles, encompassing Riverside and San Bernardino counties. His scholarly work on the region spans at least a decade (De Lara 2009) and is informed by a multifaceted personal connection with the area; De Lara grew up Riverside, and continues to be a vocal advocate for more equitable regional economic futures (Who Makes Cents: A History of Capitalism Podcast 2019). In fact, De Lara's involvement in racial and economic justice movements is foundational to the text; "if you can understand what is going on, on the ground, then you can better react to change, and organize for social justice" (Who Makes Cents 2019).
