The Crinan Canal is to benefit from the addition of a new, high-tech public facilities building. Costing £360,000, the Scottish Canals project will see the existing sanitary block at Crinan Basin replaced by a modern, environmentally-friendly building featuring toilets, showers, laundry room, and an outside terrace, all with full disabled access. With a low carbon design utilising a Sedum roof system and Larch panelling, as well as the internal use of low and zero carbon technologies such as LED lighting, heat recovery systems and under floor heating, the new block will mark a significant upgrade from the current facilities. Partly funded by the European Union and part of the Sail West-MalinWaters project, work is expected to be completed early next year.
