There's no shortage of books devoted to the work of the volunteer boatwomen of WWII. Indeed, for so small a band of women, their literary output is astonishing. Kit's memoir, The Amateur Boatwomen, was published in 1973 and although out of print, it can be easily picked up online. In it, Kit recounts her introduction to the waterways aboard converted leisure boat Heather Bell, and her incident-filled years working as a trainer for GUCCC. As well as clear and concise descriptions of operating boats, Kit also provides an insight into the lives of the working boatmen, who, by this point, had disappeared from the canals.
