Prince of Wales sent to Coventry Basin

The Prince of Wales was given a short trip in working heritage boat Scorpio on 26th May, to celebrate Coventry Canal Basin becoming part of the UK City of Culture 2021. The Prince visited the canalside former Daimler factory (said to be the UK's first car factory, now an arts centre), before boarding Scorpio for the short boat ride to the basin and a round of exhibitions and arts performances. Also onboard were representatives from CRT and local groups who have transformed the canal into a community space for this year's City of Culture, along with next year's Commonwealth Games. To cater for an expected increase in boating traffic, CRT has instituted a booking system for moorings in the canal basin. The towpath on the Coventry Arm has been upgraded over the last year, and the entire 5 1/2 miles is now claimed to be in good condition.
